About Jordana
Physician Associate
I am a Physician Assistant (PA-C) practicing in psychiatry.
I am a Florida native with roots in the Caribbean and Canada.
I attended the University of Florida for my Bachelor’s in Health Science after completing a Surgical Technology program and working within the university’s health system.
I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with my Master’s degree in Surgical Physician Assistant Studies, which provided me a generalist Physician Assistant education as well as supplementary surgical coursework and rotations.
I worked 5 years in general and trauma surgery and transitioned full time to psychiatry in 2018 after realizing:
I was spending much of my off time trying to balance and support my own stress management and resilience.
I felt deeply that I wanted to be able to connect with and know my patients in ways other than holding space for them while under anesthesia!
I work comfortably with teenagers and adults of all ages dealing with mental and behavioral struggles through life transitions.
My goal is to be an advocate while empowering you with tools to grow yourself.
My style is holistic, approachable, and easy going with a focus on shared decision making.
My practice is framed by evidence based education, clinical expertise, and lived experience.
I am very interested integrative psychiatry as well as the role of non ordinary states of consciousness to bring about lasting healing and change.
I am currently working on a certificate in Nutritional Psychiatry.
In my free time, I enjoy meditation, working on my 1800s farmhouse, rockhounding, and pottery.
About Dr. Julia

She graduated from the University of Richmond with a BA in Psychology (1994) then went onto the Pennsylvania State University to earn both her MS and PhD in School Psychology (1996, 2000). While at Penn State, Julia was afforded the opportunity to develop a special proficiency in the area of autism and developmental disorders, researching appropriate assessment methodologies for students with autism for her published dissertation. Throughout her career, she has maintained an expertise in autism assessment, including providing training at the National level. In addition, Julia has extensive experience in student and system level intervention and support, including leadership and advocacy work at the local, state, and federal levels to promote access to school mental health services for all students. In recognition of her professional contributions, Julia was awarded the Pennsylvania School Psychologist of the Year in 2019 and the National School Psychologist of the Year in 2021.
When it comes to completing assessments, Julia believes the most important component is developing a positive rapport and relationship with the client and the parent/guardian, in order to yield the most meaningful results. As a scientific-based practitioner, she approaches every evaluation by gathering the background information to develop hypotheses, choosing the most valid and reliable instruments for assessment, and consolidating and communicating results in a meaningful, understandable, and impactful way, always with a strengths-based approach. Wrapped all together with the care of a mom, Julia looks forward to walking alongside you in your journey at Ambler Counseling Center.
In her spare time, Julia enjoys practicing yoga and paddle-boarding whenever possible. Her favorite place is anywhere by the ocean, and shoes are her love language. Julia is the mom to a grown daughter and son that are her greatest pride and joy. She also remains a huge PSU football fan, and is now also a die-hard Clemson fan, thanks to her son.
